Which unit you got.

Omen has four screws, one per band. Turning one is how the plugin stops being an idea of perfection and becomes the copy you actually got.

Every piece of analog gear was calibrated once, at a factory, by someone with a screwdriver. Then it drifted — heat, age, a capacitor five percent off its label — and by the time it reached you it had become one specific unit with one specific set of faults. Nobody asked which faults you wanted.

Omen has four screws, one per band. At the detent every card is factory-perfect, and the plugin is bit-identical to one built without the feature — not close to it, identical. Turn a screw and that card goes out of calibration: the drive sits at a different point on its curve, the two channels stop agreeing quite so well, and the lamp above the band stops sitting still.

How far you turn it is the amount. Which way it goes is the screw's own business — the position decides, and it does not tell you first. So you cannot dial in a value here. You turn it, and you find out which unit you got.

The rule

What it never touches.

What it will never touch is the curve. A calibration only acts through a nonlinearity — that is the rule the code is built to — so your EQ stays exactly where you put it, to the last decimal, however far out of spec the rest of the unit has wandered.

Drift belongs to the iron. Never to the arithmetic.

How to hear it.

Past the detent there are three things to notice at once: the harmonics move, the two channels stop agreeing quite so well, and the lamp above the band stops sitting still. The curve does not move at all — that contrast is the entire feature, and it is the first thing the ears check.
